Account Deletion

1. Overview

Thoughtmarks respects your right to delete your account and all associated data at any time. This page explains:

• How to delete your account
• What data will be deleted
• Data retention timelines
• Your rights under GDPR and CCPA

2. How to Delete Your Account

2.1 In-App Deletion (Recommended)

If you cannot access the app, you can request deletion via email:

3. What Will Be Deleted

3.1 Immediately Deleted

Upon account deletion request, the following are immediately marked for deletion:

• ✓ All your Thoughtmarks (notes, voice recordings)
• ✓ All bins and organizational structures
• ✓ All tags and labels
• ✓ Your profile information
• ✓ App settings and preferences
• ✓ Device authorizations

3.2 Deleted Within 30 Days

The following data is permanently deleted within 30 days:

• ✓ Account credentials
• ✓ Personal information
• ✓ Content backups
• ✓ Cloud-synced data
• ✓ Encryption keys

3.3 Deleted Within 90 Days

System backups are permanently deleted within 90 days:

• ✓ Backup archives
• ✓ Disaster recovery copies

3.4 Retained Data (Anonymized)

Only anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained:

• Feature usage statistics (cannot be linked to you)
• Performance metrics (anonymized)
• Crash reports (anonymized)

4. Before You Delete

4.1 Export Your Data

To export your data:

1. Open Settings → Privacy & Data
2. Tap Export My Data
3. Choose format (JSON, Markdown, or CSV)
4. Save the export file to your device

4.2 Cancel Active Subscriptions

Deleting your account does NOT automatically cancel subscriptions managed through the App Store:

• Open iOS Settings → Your Name → Subscriptions
• Find "Thoughtmarks" subscription
• Tap "Cancel Subscription"

5. Alternative Options

5.1 Temporarily Deactivate

If you want a break but might return:

• Simply stop using the app
• Your data remains available
• Cancel your subscription to avoid charges
• Reactivate anytime by signing in

5.2 Delete Specific Data

Instead of deleting your entire account, you can:

• Delete individual Thoughtmarks
• Clear analytics data (Settings → Privacy → Delete My Data)
• Revoke device authorizations
• Clear cache and temporary files

6. Your Legal Rights

6.1 GDPR Rights (EU Users)

Under GDPR Article 17, you have the right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"). We comply fully with this requirement.

• Request Processing: Within 30 days
• Data Deletion: Within 30 days
• Backup Deletion: Within 90 days
• Confirmation: Email confirmation when deletion is complete

6.2 CCPA Rights (California Users)

Under CCPA Section 1798.105, you have the right to request deletion of personal information. We comply fully with this requirement.

• Verification: We may verify your identity before deletion
• Processing: Within 45 days (may extend to 90 days)
• Confirmation: Written confirmation when complete

7. After Deletion

7.1 Immediate Effects

• You cannot sign in to the app
• Your data is no longer accessible
• Cloud sync stops immediately
• You cannot recover your account

7.2 Creating a New Account

You can create a new account using the same email address after your previous account is deleted. However:

• Your previous data will NOT be restored
• You start with a completely fresh account
• Previous subscription benefits do not carry over

7.3 Confirmation

You will receive email confirmation when:

• Your deletion request is received
• Your account deletion is complete
• All backups are permanently deleted (90 days)
